Devotional: What Does 'Being Born Again' Mean?
                                Christian Devotional about Spiritual Birth

That which is born of the
flesh is flesh [the physical is merely physical], and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be
surprised that I have told you, 'You must be born again [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed,
sanctified].'…For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only
begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life. For
God did not send the Son into the world to judge and condemn the world [that is, to initiate the final judgment
of the world], but that the world might be saved through Him. - John 3:6-7; 16-17 (AMP)
Jesus told Nicodemus, one
of the Pharisees, that we need to be 'born again'. But what does 'born again' actually mean?
In John 3:6-7, Jesus
explained that being born of the flesh is of the flesh [the physical is merely physical]. We are all born of the
flesh, our natural birth! But when Jesus says we must be born again, He is meaning a 'spiritual birth', which
happens when we come to Jesus and give our lives to Him—this is being born of the Spirit. When we are born again
of the Spirit, we are "reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified" (AMP).
John 3:16-17 says that
God loved the entire world, the whole human race, that He gave His Son, Jesus, as a sacrifice, bringing reconciliation
to the Father for all who believe in Him. And that all who believe in Him and trust Him as Lord & Saviour, shall
not perish but have eternal life. Jesus was the final, ultimate sacrifice to atone for our sins—bringing us
forgiveness, wholeness and complete cleansing from all sin. God wants the whole world to be saved through Jesus,
that is why Jesus came into the world.
God loves YOU. Full stop!
There is nothing you have thought, said or done in your entire lifetime that would cause Jesus not to love you.
In fact, because God is all-knowing, He already knows all about your life: your sins, hurt, anger, bitterness and
hateful feelings—whatever it may be—He knows it all and He STILL LOVES YOU! All of us at one stage were far
from God, lost in the wickedness and depravity of our sins, but even in that state, the Bible says that Jesus
died for us (Rom 5:8).
He reaches out to us, wooing us with His love, beckoning us to come to Him. Jesus bore all the sins, griefs and
infirmities of the whole world while He hung on the cross—including yours! So don't feel as though you are too
bad, too far gone, to come to Jesus—He is waiting for you!
If you want to come to
Jesus and give your life to Him, you may like to pray this prayer:
Lord Jesus, I thank you
for dying on the cross for my sins. Thank you for such love. I confess that I believe in you and ask that you
forgive me of my sins and cleanse me. I give my life to you and ask you to come into my life as my Lord & Saviour.
Fill me now with your Holy Spirit so I can live for you from this day on. In Jesus' name I pray.
