Devotional: The Weight of Our Sin
Christian Devotion on Our Sins being poured out upon Jesus
He personally carried our
sins in His body on the cross [willingly offering Himself on it, as on an altar of sacrifice], so that we might die
to sin [becoming immune from the penalty and power of sin] and live for righteousness; for by His wounds you [who
believe] have been healed. - 1 Peter 2:24 (AMP)
Our sins must have been
like a heavy weight that Christ carried and bore in His body while hanging on the cross. He not only had to endure
the physical anguish and pain of the nails being driven into His hands and feet on the cross, but also the anguish
and pain of bearing the sins of the world—every sin of every person ever born into the world. That is hard to
comprehend. For us, dealing with one sin is hard enough, but Christ bore all of our sins in His body while hanging
nailed to the cross amidst the torrents of verbal abuse and accusations from the crowds who watched on.
And because He endured all
this for us, He freed us from sin, freed us from the power of sin and freed us from the penalty of sin. We, in fact,
can die to sin because Jesus paid the price as a living sacrifice for our sins. We can live to righteousness because
of Christ's righteousness in us. We put off our old sinful nature and put on Christ's nature—His righteousness.
As a result of Christ's blood
that flowed down from the cross, His shed blood, we are cleansed from sin and we are healed. At the cross, we can
receive healing—because by His wounds, we have been healed. There is forgiveness, reconciliation to the Father, wholeness,
deliverance, freedom, victory and healing at the cross of Christ and because of the empty tomb—His resurrection.
He won! He is Risen!
