Devotional: The Work of the Holy Spirit—Giftings
Christian Devotion about the Holy Spirit giving gifts to His church
"...But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit [the spiritual illumination and the enabling of the Holy Spirit] for the common good...All these things [the gifts, the achievements, the abilities, the empowering] are brought about by one and the same [Holy] Spirit, distributing to each one individually just as He chooses..." (Verses 7 & 11) -
1 Corinthians 12:7-11 (AMP)
Each believer has been given gifts of the Holy Spirit to be a blessing and encouragement to others. It is the Holy Spirit who enables us to manifest these gifts. We each have a gift in which we seem to operate in naturally and more often than the other gifts—and for this reason, no one person is better than another because of it, as we all have been given gifts by the same Holy Spirit—and as we move in the gifts God has given, we can edify each other.
Word of Wisdom–To be able to build up others by giving wise advice—Godly advice. Speaking God's truth in situations where there may be confusion or a lack of understanding. To be able to shed God's light in the midst of those foggy and hazy moments that we may face. (James 1:5; James 3:17; Col.3:16; 1 Corinth.3:19; Col.4:5-6)
Word of Knowledge–To be able to help someone out by sharing a word of knowledge into their situation—something that only God would know and which nobody has shared with us. It's having Godly insight beyond what is obvious. (2 Corinth.2:14; 1 Corinth.1:5; Rom.11:33; Phil.1:9)
Faith–To be able to stand in faith even though the situation looks bleak. The ability to just know for certainty of a positive outcome, even when everything seems to suggest the opposite—and to be able to see the reality of something well before it actually is. (Heb.11:1; Matt.21:21-22; Rom.10:17; 2 Corinth.5:7; Heb.11:6; Matt.17:20)
Healing–To believe, without a doubt, that God is the healer and wants to heal people. The ability to believe that the person they're praying for will be healed—whether or not the person believes God will heal them. They pray 'expecting' a positive outcome and have unshakable faith in the healing power of God. (Mark 16:17-18; Isaiah 53:4-5; 1 Pet.2:24; James 5:14-15)
