Devotional: What Do We Reflect
Christian Devotion about reflecting Jesus in our hearts
As in water face reflects face,
So the heart of man reflects man. - Proverbs 27:19 (AMP)
Water is like a mirror.
As we look into a pool of water, we see our reflection. So it is with a person's heart. Our heart is like a mirror;
it reflects what we're truly like. Luke 6:45 says that if we have good in our hearts, we will produce good, but
if we have evil in our hearts, we will produce evil. The mouth speaks what is in the heart. We may try to hide
the way we think or feel, but eventually, it will come out and reveal the true state of our hearts.
We need to ask ourselves
this question, "What do I want most of all to reflect?". I'm sure for most of us who truly love God, the answer will be
a definite, "I want to reflect Jesus". We should all want to reflect the beauty of Jesus—His attributes and
character. And we can! The fruit of God's character, which is produced in us through the indwelling Holy Spirit,
develops and grows into a full harvest as we live in intimate relationship with our Lord.
God transforms us by the
renewing of our minds (Rom.12:2). This comes through the living Word of God. We must allow God to 'transform' us
as we read and meditate on His Word. Our whole selves–body, soul and spirit–must be in alignment with God's Word
and placed under the Lordship of Christ. And in so doing, we will not be conformed to any other standard and, over
time, will have a heart that truly reflects the beauty of Christ.
