Devotional: What You Are Not – An Accident
Christian Devotion on our Identity – Your Predestined Purpose
For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them. – Psalm 139:13-16 (NKJV)
• You are not an accident
Regardless of the circumstances of your entry into the world, you are not an accident. God always knew you would exist. He already had a plan and purpose for you. He chose you before the foundation of the world and saw you as you were being formed in your mother's womb. Your entry into the world wasn't a surprise to Him, but rather a real delight. He looked upon you with such love and saw the God-given purpose and destiny He placed inside.
I love the way the Amplified bible puts it: My frame was not hidden from You, when I was being formed in secret, and intricately and skillfully formed [as if embroidered with many colors] in the depths of the earth (v.15). We are like a beautiful tapestry of the Lord!
He watched you as you grew and rejoiced when you accepted Him as Lord and Saviour. And He still rejoices over you. I'm sure God gets excited when the plans He has for you start to unfold in your life and your destiny is being fulfilled, because you do have a destiny and you also have a legacy to leave behind.
Take a moment to meditate on this truth and worship God for His wonderful love in forming you and placing a God-given destiny within you.
