Devotional: Sowing & Reaping
Christian Women's Devotion on Sowing to the Spirit
"...For whatever a
man sows, that and that only is
what he will
reap." (v: 7).
In our reading today, we
see the affects of sowing
to the flesh and
sowing to the spirit.
If we are sowing to
the spirit, we will reap eternal
life. If we
are sowing to our flesh, we will reap
from
the flesh, decay and ruin. If we are
sowing
anger, bitterness, jealousy,
resentment, hateful
feelings, lust, sexual
immorality, filthy talk and
joking etc., we
will reap those things in our lives. We need
to
refuse to allow ourselves to dwell on these
things.
All of these will eventually take
root and become
part of who we are. Once we
get roots in our lives,
it is hard work to
up-root it. The way to not let it
take root
is to nip-it-in-the-bud (so to speak).
As
soon as we start having these thoughts, we
need to
recognize it and refuse to think on
it. We have to be
on guard and be listening
to God when He points it out
to us, for quite
often we may not even realize the
thoughts
we're entertaining are wrong. Sometimes
we
may even think it's
justifiable.
Let us keep on sowing to the
Spirit. It says in V: 9,
"And let us not lose
heart and grow weary and faint
in acting
nobly and doing right, for in due time and
at
the appointed season we shall reap, if we do
not
loosen and relax our courage and faint."
Even though
we are diligently doing what the
Lord requires and
being obedient to the
Lord's promptings, it can seem
that nothing
much is happening and it's not making
a
difference. But don't give up, for we shall
reap
at the appointed time if we do not
faint.
Let's just keep on doing what God
would have us do—being a blessing and
sharing with others, especially
our brothers
and sisters in the faith, and God will take care
of the rest.
Just remember, we will reap
that which we
sow!

The wicked man earns
deceitful wages, but he who
sows
righteousness (moral and spiritual
rectitude in every
area and relation) shall
have a sure reward [permanent
and
satisfying]. He who is steadfast in
righteousness
(uprightness and right standing
with God) attains to
life, but he who pursues
evil does it to his own death. - Proverbs 11:18-19 (AMPC)
Lord, I know that I
shall reap That which I have sown I ask
you, Lord, to help me sow To that which I must
grow in.
