Devotional: Our True Image–Part 2
Christian Women's Devotion on knowing we're fearfully & wonderfully made
...For You formed my innermost parts; You knit me [together] in my mother's womb...(v.13)
We are beautiful in God's eyes and are His 'wonderful works', His workmanship. But it's not only our frame (bodies) God spent time knitting together in our mother's womb, it's also our inner most being—our souls. God gave us each a unique personality with the abilities, talents and gifts that He placed within, which makes us who we are—and He sees our potential.
It's not the 'packaging' that is important, but it's the gift inside that is. We can wrap gifts with the most beautiful wrapping and co-ordinating ribbons and bows, but if what's inside is not valued, then the wrapping means nothing. Our true image is what is on the inside—and this is what has eternal value. God doesn't look at the outward appearance, but He looks at what's inside—our hearts.
We often invest so much time and money in changing our outward (body image), that we end up neglecting our true image—our inner selves, our spirits. So why invest so much into what has no eternal value (our bodies)? I'm not saying it's not important to look after ourselves by eating healthy and getting exercise, but if we do this excessively and only because we care more about our body image (how we look), then we have the wrong motives. When we do this, it ends up becoming all-consuming—and as a result, our body image seems to be more important to us than God's image in us. We need to remember that we are His image bearers.
Our earthly bodies are perishable, and will eventually die. So, spending so much time investing in the 'body' seems rather fruitless in the light of eternity.

The world looks only at the outward,
Overlooking what's inside
But God looks at the innermost part
To see the image of Christ.
