Devotional: Let Go Of Offences
Christian Women's Devotion on Letting Go of Offences and Hurts
So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him; and Esau said in his heart, "The days of mourning for my father are very near; then I will kill my brother Jacob". v.41 (AMP)
Holding onto offences, grudges and past hurts only robs us of today and of the future. It's a heavy weight we were never meant to carry.
The only way to truly overcome past hurts and offences (or even present offences), is to forgive and let it go. And the way to let it go is to give it over to the Lord. Every time our minds replay it, we need to give it over to the Lord and pray blessing over the person who has offended us.
Is it right for us to say that our offence is justified because the person who hurt us was so cruel and unjust? No. We need to let go of the offence and the hurt because it only festers and robs us of the joy of the Lord. It's the only way to truly be free. It's not a matter of how badly we were treated, but rather how we choose to respond to it. We need to choose, today, to let it go. We need to choose to forgive the person and pray for them. We need to ask God for His eyes to see people the way He does and His heart to love people the way He does. It's only by doing this that we will ever change and be able to respond in a more Christ-centred manner—without taking on grudges—because if we truly saw people the way God does, the only thing that would remain is love.

Bless those who persecute you [who cause you harm or hardship]; bless and do not curse [them]. - Romans 12:14 (AMP)
Lord, I choose to give over to you
The offences I still hold,
So that I can walk in your freedom,
Which liberates my soul.
