Devotional: A Lesson In Humility

Read: Philippians 2:3-11

We read here how we must have the same attitude of humility as Christ Jesus did. He is our example.

We should always think of other people rather than ourselves. We should care about their interests, their concerns and what they want to do. We shouldn't have a selfish attitude–only thinking of ourselves and wanting to do everything our way. That kind of thinking isn't fair on others. We all want to do our own thing, but sometimes we need to put aside what we want to do, in favour of what others want. If we don't do this and continue to want everything our way all the time, we may end up having no friends and being alone. Nobody wants to be around someone that only wants to do what they want to do. We need to care about what others want, and to do things their way as well.

You know, we all can have different ideas, and by putting these ideas together, we can accomplish great things. That's working together–and that's fair play!

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. - Romans 12:3 (NIV)

We need to put aside our own interests
For the sake of someone else,
For they are just as important to God,
So we shouldn't think of only ourselves.
