Devotional: It Is Written
Christian Women's Devotion on Knowing God's Word When Being Tempted
It's often in our spiritual desert or wilderness times, when we are at our weakest point, Satan comes and tempts and tries us.
Like Jesus, we need to know God's word and reply with, "...it is written." We need to also be aware that Satan uses scripture too—but out of context. We need to know the truth, and live by that truth, to overcome the subtleties of Satan. For Satan's lies and deception can be hidden in scripture and can often appeal to the flesh.
We read here that Jesus was hungry. The first thing Satan comes at is Jesus' desire for food—he tempts His flesh.
Satan then comes at Him with scripture. Trying to entice Him using God's word, but Jesus saw it was out of context and replied with, "it is also written..."
Then once again, Satan comes to tempt Jesus' flesh and calls on Him to bow down to him. Jesus replied with the truth of God's word and sent Satan away.
Jesus won the battle with God's word. He did not give in to Satan when His flesh was weak, we shouldn't either.
One way to overcome Satan, is to know Scripture, know who we are in Christ and know the Character of God.
We need to guard our hearts and minds, because deception is subtle. Satan disguises his lies and weaves his way into our lives. Don't let him have a foothold. Know your Bible!

For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart. - Hebrews 4: 12
Satan is the master of deception
Hiding behind a false disguise,
Like Jesus, we reply, "It is written"
To refute his deception and lies.

Like Jesus in the wilderness
Being tempted and being tried,
No matter how Satan came at Him,
"It is written", was His reply
And we should be as Jesus was
When Satan tries to deceive,
We should respond with, "It is written"
And his lies, we should not receive
For Satan won't get a foothold in
When in God's word, we abide
And have God's word upon our lips
With an 'It is written' reply.
