Devotional: In the Waiting
Christian Women's Devotion on how we wait
So Jacob served [Laban] for seven years for [the right to marry] Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to
him because of his love for her. (v.20 AMP)
Seven years seems a long time to 'wait'.
We all must go through times of waiting. There is a right time for everything—so just hang in there! Don't get tempted to give up,
or hurry things along some other way—rushing and running ahead of God. Often when we rush ahead, finding a quicker way to what we want or what we hope to accomplish (even in ministry), we fail and end
up making a mess of it. There are so many examples of this in the bible; one such story is of Abraham & Sarah while they waited for their promised son (Gen.15-17).
God uses the time of 'waiting' to prepare us, often in ways we never thought of or even understand.
It's not the time frame in which we wait that is the focal point, but it's 'how' we wait.
It's interesting to note that Jacob considered the time of seven years to be like a few days. Why? Because he loved Rachal, but also,
I believe it could have been because he knew for certainty that Rachal will be his wife at the end of that time. It gave him real hope!
How do you respond to waiting? Do you have confident joy and expectation? How we wait is often more important that what we're waiting for,
and it is possible to wait with hope and expectation, knowing for certainty the fulfilment of what we hope for: answered prayer or direction to move forward to the next step that God would have us take.
Whatever it may be, we need to wait with patience, with joy and with hope!
God is not in a rush, so we shouldn't be either

Wait for and confidently expect the Lord;
Be strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for and confidently expect the Lord. - Psalm 27:14 (AMP)
Help me wait with patience, Lord,
No matter how long it takes,
For you are working behind the scenes
In the time that I must wait.
