Devotional: Growing Up in the Faith
Christian Women's Devotion on Becoming Christ-like
Growing in Christ happens over our lifetime. We're not automatically "mature in the faith" the moment we come into relationship with the Lord, we "mature" as we grow up in the Lord—just like a baby grows up in the natural, so we must also grow up in Christ Jesus. And as we grow, we come into fuller understanding and deeper knowledge of God. We are no longer "young" in the faith, unsure of what we believe or what the bible is saying. We know the truth and stand firmly in it. I believe that becoming Christ-like is to develop the "character" of God. We've received the fullness of God when we first believed and accepted Him as Lord and Saviour, but the "character" of God is developed and outworked in our lives as we put on His nature and walk in relationship with Him: (Eph.1:22-23; Eph.3:19; Gal.3:27; Rom.13:14). We are always growing in the Lord, and God is always working in us, bringing us to spiritual maturity—and this happens as we live in "communion" with Him. We need to commune with God daily and be still before Him, allowing Him to speak to our hearts. He wants that too! Prayer: Lord, I thank you that you develop Godly character in me as I walk in communion with you. Help me grow up in you and to be willing to be moulded and shaped as I do. © By M.S.Lowndes
For though by this time you ought to be teachers [because of the time you have had to learn these truths], you actually need someone to teach you again the elementary principles of God's word [from the beginning], and you have come to be continually in need of milk, not solid food.
