Devotional: Connected To The Vine

Christian Women's Devotion on Staying Connected to Christ

bar

Read: John 15:1-8 (NKJV)

We have been grafted into the vine (Christ) by our faith in Him. We need to continue to be 'in Christ' to be productive for Him.

If a branch is cut off from the tree and tossed to one side, it can no longer produce. It doesn't have the life of the tree in it. It is no longer connected to the source of life. This is how it is in the spiritual realm. Being cut off from union with Christ, we no longer are connected to our source of power. The power to live the Christian life, and to overcome the enemy; to know the joy of the Lord despite our circumstances, and to have intimate fellowship with God and hope for eternity. We need to stay vitally united to the vine (Christ) to tap into the resources that are ours through Christ.

God the Father prunes the branches bearing fruit, so that we will bear more. The times of pruning are painful to go through, but necessary in order to be more productive.

If you feel as though you're not connected to the vine anymore, and feel indifferent to the things of God, you can come back and be re-connected to the vine. God loves you and wants to have a relationship with you. He will receive you with open arms, all you need to do is take the first step. You may like to pray this prayer:

Father God, I'm sorry for becoming indifferent to you and for not remaining connected to Christ. I come to you today and surrender my life to you. Forgive me and heal my brokenness. Help me to remain connected to the source, for all I need to have life within me and to be productive for you. Fill me afresh with your Holy Spirit. In Jesus name. Amen.

Now don't be afraid of the pruning. Allow God to prune your branches so you will be even more productive for Him.

[Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care in the year of drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit. - Jeremiah 17:7-8(AMPC)
